Tastefully renovated 1860's property in idyllic village. Ideal for up to 3 couples or 2 families
In the winter of 2002 I spent a month travelling around Languedoc-Roussillon to find my second hide-away. After much searching, I finally found Maison Caramany, uninhabited for 30 years.
Maison Caramany is cleverly located in the charming hill-top village of Caramany in the region of Languedoc-Roussillon in the south of France, giving easy access to various sites.
Here is what you will find at Maison Caramany:
Maison Caramany, easy to find because it is on the village square, is built on three levels.
- Sleeps 5-8 people (2 doubles, 1 single with extra pull-out bed and double sofa bed)
- 2 terraces with gorgeous views overlooking the village, chateau and church
- Well equipped kitchen with glass-top hob, oven, fridge-freezer, dishwasher, microwave and washing machine.
- Large bathroom with both corner bath and shower
- Downstairs WC
- 2 x TV’s, 2 x DVD players and Hi Fi
- Large collection of DVDs
- Baby highchair, cot and pram
- Assortment of games
- Good collection of books, including guides to area
- Hair dryer
- Iron and ironing board
- Bed linen and towels
- Reasonable use of electricity and water included
On the ground floor you will find the lounge, kitchen, a WC with wash basin and the Big bedroom.
The lounge has two sofas, one of which opens into a large and very comfortable bed. In the corner is a wood dining table which can be extended to comfortably accommodate 6 people. French television is available, plus a VCR and DVD player with over 50 films. One of the walls shows off its impressive stonework and it also has an opening into the kitchen, adding to the intimate atmosphere.
The large kitchen has plenty of room for those who enjoy cooking. It comes equipped with all the needs of a modern day kitchen, plus all crockery and cutlery, a fondu and raclette set, an electric kettle, pots, pans and baking dishes.
The Big bedroom has everything you need and more. The focal point of the room, a section of stonework with mood lighting, is above the double bed. Along with a wardrobe, chest of drawers and mirror comes an intimate relaxation corner with a 2 seater sofa, coffee table, library and portable TV with DVD player; perfect for some quiet or down time.
Incidentally, there is also a wood burner in the hallway which keeps the house very snug, should you decide to rent in the winter.
On the first floor you will find the Medium bedroom, the Small bedroom, the bathroom and a small terrace.
The Medium bedroom has turned out to be one of the most desirable rooms in the house. Warm, cosy and inviting, it has a double bed, original wood flooring, a wardrobe, an original, inbuilt storage cupboard and a very practical wash unit with hot and cold running water. There is also a small balcony overlooking the village square.
The Small bedroom makes full use of the available space to make for a comfortable sleeping area. There is a single bed with reading lamp with the option of a pull-out bed if you need the extra room. The original tiles are still in place and there is another balcony overlooking the square. There is also a wardrobe and chest of drawers.
The bathroom is tiled in cool grey and white, is spacious and has plenty of natural light. The corner bath is so deliciously comfortable, you can easily find yourself staying there for hours. There is also a spacious shower with glass door and its own lighting. The bathroom opens out onto a small terrace where you can take in the views of Caramany, relax or catch up with some reading.
Finally, the main terrace is on the second floor. In a prime position overlooking the village, you will be captivated by the view on offer from this sunny and private terrace. Available is a wood table and chairs with parasol and a barbecue.
All rooms have been insulated, making them cool in the summer and snug in the winter. All rooms are equipped with electric radiators.
Parking: I always park my car in front of the house on the street. For your information, there is a small car park near the Post Office in the village (2min walk) and another larger space downhill from the village near the war memorial (3min walk). There is a garage/stable under the house but, because access is awkward, I rarely use it.
Come to Caramany and I am convinced you will have a holiday you can truly call your own!
